Position: Design Lead
Date commenced: 4 December 2019
When I joined The Content Division in early 2020, I was running on fumes. I’d come from a string of high-pressure workplaces with long hours, high staff turnover and little support. I was jaded and ready for something different.
Even though I started just before COVID hit, and we moved to remote work almost immediately, I quickly saw that TCD was different. The culture was thoughtful and people-first, even in the middle of a pandemic. We had virtual bonding sessions, morning walks, a famously active (and hilarious) group chat – small things that made a big impact. I felt genuinely part of something.
I came on board as a part-time graphic designer, but my role grew over time. I was trusted to lead, not just deliver. I’ve been able to explore new design software, streamline our workflows and mentor junior creatives; all because of the trust and flexibility I’ve been given. Eventually, I was promoted to Design Lead.
The most rewarding work I’ve done has been with clients like The Lady Musgrave Trust and Hand Heart Pocket, helping communicate complex, sensitive issues with respect and impact. Creatively and personally, that alignment means everything.
One of the biggest shifts for me has been how TCD supports life beyond work. My partner and I had long wanted to become respite and emergency foster carers, but the logistics never felt possible in previous roles. With flexible working and a culture of trust, it suddenly was. Working from home meant we could juggle school drop-offs and appointments, and show up fully for the kids in our care.
In 2023, I was offered an artist residency in France. I’m a passionate painter outside of work, and this was a huge opportunity. TCD approved six weeks of leave for me to take part, then supported my move to a four-day work week on my return so I could continue painting and selling my landscapes as a side hustle.
When I became pregnant, the support continued. I was able to work from home on days I needed to rest, and my manager gave me complete flexibility around my maternity leave dates. TCD offered an additional 12 weeks paid parental leave on top of the government scheme. And for what it’s worth, I don’t know any other new parents whose boss came by a week postpartum with homemade lactation cookies.
Even after I gave birth, I was encouraged to stay connected through coffee catch-ups, social club events and birthday celebrations – often with my baby in tow.
TCD also offers paid leave for pregnancy loss and four dedicated mental health days a year, alongside access to free one-on-one counselling. It’s not just lip service. The care here is real.
I know it can be rough out there, but I hope everyone is able to find a team that recognises their potential and acts on it. A team that values their contributions. A team that sees them as part of its long game. I found that team at TCD – and I’ve never looked back.
